Final Extension of the Public Health Emergency (May 11, 2023)
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration for another 90 days effective February 9, 2023. This will be the final extension of the COVID-19 pandemic. The states will have these last 90 days to prepare for the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency, which will conclude on May 11, 2023.
The public health emergency enabled the government to provide COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines at no charge, as
well as offer enhanced social safety net benefits, to help cope with the pandemic and minimize its impact.
